Trace the restriction
Debris near an outlet, a restricted elbow, a damaged connection or an undersized drainage route can prevent water from leaving the gutter as expected. Overflow can also occur when roof valleys concentrate water into a short run.
Check the destination
A clear downspout can still create trouble when it empties beside a wall, onto a busy walkway or into a ground-level area that cannot accept the flow.
